Long-Term Trend Results to Be Released on June 10, 2026

National results will provide additional information on student learning, following declines on the 2022 and 2023 Long-Term Trend assessments

(Washington, D.C.) The National Assessment Governing Board (Governing Board) announced today that Long-Term Trend (LTT) for 9- and 13-year-olds will be released on June 10, 2026.

LTT provides an age-based, national snapshot on student learning in math and reading. This assessment shows changes in student knowledge across generations, dating back to the 1970’s. Results are reported only at the national level and cannot be compared to the Nation’s Report Card.

LTT was last released in 2022 for 9-year-olds and 2023 for 13-year-olds.

Among the findings from 2023, the percentage of 13-year-olds who said they read for fun was lower than ever previously reported. Just 14 percent of students reported that they read for fun almost daily, down 3 percentage points from 2020 and 13 percentage points from 2012.

Results will be available to the public on June 10, at 12:01 AM ET at www.nationsreportcard.gov

The independent, nonpartisan 26-member Governing Board was established by Congress to set policy for The Nation's Report Card. The Governing Board decides what grades and subjects to assess, determines the content to include, and sets the NAEP achievement levels. It works with the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), which administers NAEP, to release and disseminate results.
